The Trouble with the Alphabet
Through the Eyes of Innocence
What started out as a casual project in 2006 to paint the alphabet on canvases for my son's room, became a labor of love driven by compassion and a newfound interest in the realities facing children around the globe. As the project evolved it changed the way I saw my place in the world. The realization that I have a responsibility not just to my own family, but to this life I have been given, became my inspiration.
The Trouble with the Alphabet utilizes a fundamental starting point for learning: the alphabet. I have assigned each letter to a country dealing with profound human rights issues and life threatening circumstances. Through the use of art, poetry, shot essays and featured NGOs, this book brings to light these issues in a raw and haunting manner.

The project goes beyond the book with floor puzzles and most importantly full installations of the artwork and poetry for schools and libraries. These installations consist of 26 beautiful prints on canvas of the entire alphabet, each 24 x 24 in size, as well as the 26 correlating poems printed in full color on 12 x 12 plaques.

The book has been has been used as curriculum in several schools, as well it has been presented In DC at education conferences by representatives of the International Baccalaureate system of global education.
